Greetings From San Jose

Hello Everyone,

This past week went by real fast. Mainly due to the busy end to the week that we had. Friday contained an odd surprise as we were invited by our Bishop out to breakfast cause he said that there was a waitress who he had spoken to before who was interested in joining the church. So we went to this little breakfast place and ate outside as a tree with millions of little flowers dropped them on us and in our food. The place was surprisingly busy for a Friday morning so the waitress didn't have time to sit and make small talk with us and allow us to invite her to church or anything but the free meal from our bishop was still pleasant and perhaps we'll be able to talk to the waitress some other time. Then in the afternoon we were asked to attend a blood drive at our stake center that was going to be inter-faith organized. So we were supposed to show up and answer questions if anyone had any, plus my companion and I were both pretty excited at the prospect at donating ourselves if we could. But we got the building and were disappointed to find that no one was there and there was sign saying it had been cancelled.

On Saturday we were informed that a man who isn't a member of the church was moving into the ward boundaries and his family were members and so called and set up for us to help him and our bishop had communicated with the man and he seemed interested in coming to church as well. So we helped with the move and invited the man to a BBQ that one of our ward missionaries was putting on for just the purpose of inviting non-members to. The BBQ's turn out wasn't very good and the man didn't come but he did call us in the middle of it and asked for our help with a crisis that had occurred. His wife was supposed to drive and pick him up and take him back to their old home to continue packing some stuff but she was injured an didn't come to get him. We couldn't do much for him but our Bishop in the end helped him out I think. Not that we really hold him indebted to the ward or anything but we feel that he has relied on us enough that hopefully he will consent to coming to church and listening to the missionary lessons.

Then on Sunday we were invited to do sharing time in primary cause it was the fifth sunday, and we had a couple of activities and weren't sure if we had enough planned to take up 20 minutes though. But when we got to actually doing the sharing time I don't think the primary left us even 15 minutes worth of time and so we went kind of long on each activity and were cut short by the bell. It wasn't that bad of an experience but I'm glad that the next fifth sunday isn't probably until I'll be out of this area.

We received a referral from some other missionaries and met the guy and he was super nice and had no qualms accepting our invitation to church but needed a ride so we got our ward mission leader to go with us to pick him up and he wasn't there or at least the cleaning lady lied or something. It was really disappointing. We went back by after church cause he had also told us we could teach him then and he said that he had slept in accidentally and that he would come to church next week and we could teach him then. I'm not sure how reliable he is but perhaps he'll come along.

So those were some hightlights of my week. For the primary lesson acutally it was on temples and so my companion and I thought we'd make a big ole' sugar cube temple but it turned out to be kind of hard after we had used up one of our 4 boxes of sugar cubes. And we didn't quite know how to cement the cubes together so our structure would hold. We abandoned the project but I made some Kool Aid so the sugar won't go to waste.
